What we tasted in June 2026

Southern English Wines - Dan Farrell-Wright - Wickhams



On the 12th of June we were glad to have back Dan Farrell-Wright of Wickhams Wine from Exeter. Dan is a well-recognised expert on English wines, and his enthusiastic presentation showed his deep knowledge of the development of winemaking here.


The tasting covered a wide variety of wine styles and demonstrated both the maturity of the winemaking in England now, and how English wines themselves mature. The refined Breaky Bottom sparkling Marraine Pooks 2016 and Marbury 2021 really demonstrated the heights now being reached, the latter being a convincing white Burgundy type; while the Blackbook Mix-Up Vol IV showed that Müller-Thurgau can produce a wine of real interest when vinified with proper care. All of the wines were interesting, and were much enjoyed by the attendees.
