What we tasted in September 2026
James Long (Corney & Barrow) - Bordeaux
On September 11th we were very happy to see the return of James Long, presenting a selection of Bordeaux wines from Corney & Barrow's portfolio. Somehow this classic French region seemed to have fallen out of fashion, and the Society had not had a tasting of their wines for many years. Any doubts about the interest and variety that Bordeaux wines offer was quickly dispelled, and we had an excellent tasting covering many of the major wines. Refined white wines and deep and delicious reds were followed by an elegant and rich Sauternes. It was a real pleasure to reconnect with these wines.
The wines tasted were:
Château La Fleur des Graves, 2023. Graves de Vayres, Bordeaux, France. Sauvignon blanc, Semillon
Château Pique Caillou Blanc, 2023. Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux, France. Sauvignon blanc, Semillon
Château Barrail de Blanc, 2022. St Emillion Grand Cru, Bordeaux, France. Merlot, Cabernet Franc
Château Canon-Fronsac, 2020. Canon-Fronsac, Bordeaux, France. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon
Maison Sichel, Corney & Barrow Margaux, 2021. Margaux, Bordeaux, France. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot
Château La Grave a Pomerol, 2018. Pomerol, Bordeaux, France. Merlot
Domaine du Saint-Guirons, 2016. Pauillac, Bordeaux, France. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot
Château Briatte, 2022. Sauternes, Bordeaux, France. Semillon, Sauvignon blanc, Muscadelle
